Surprisingly, some of my stories had some success. One of them, "The Life and Work of Alphonse Kauders" was even included in "Best Yugoslav Short Stories '90," which I found out only when I bought the book. I also managed to earn some money by writing for "independent media," mainly inept film reviews and the column entitled "Sarajevo Republic," which was funny and extolled the civic, urban spirit of Sarajevo. Because of my writing, I was invited to visit the United States, as a visitor of the United States Information Agency (which I had hoped was a spy agency). So I traveled around the United States, meeting interesting and uninteresting people.
